Return To Livingstone's Africa...

On the night before Livingstone was to make his discovery of Victoria Falls that would capture the imagination of the world, he would have watched the light of his campfire and lanterns as it scuttled out across the surface of the hushed liquid titan, the Upper Zambezi. Such was the extraordinary, magnetic beauty of the Zambezi valley that he wrote of it
in his journals and letter home. And it is here, on those banks, that we will find ourselves enjoying Africa on a famed game lodge,
a former hunting land into a one of Africa's most unforgettable retreats.

With its 15 private kilometres of Zambezi River frontage, which offers an unrivalled river experience of the great adventure and undisturbed beauty that captured the hearts of the great explorers such as Livingstone. As before, during the thirsty months awesome herds of elephants and other great creatures are drawn to the waters edge, while, in the green summer season, the banks are home to a host of migratory and wading birds. And now, in this paradise overlooking the river, this
land awaits your discovery.

Inland, the wilderness embraces a seasonal wetland where, as in days gone by, the sweeping canvas outline of a beautiful safari camp nestles at the edge of this grassy African savannah.

Uninhibited by fences, Africa's mammals move freely in concert with the seasons. The timeless view from safari camp, is one of the waterholes which frequently attracts a congregation of passing wild beasts from
light-footed Impala to monumental buffalo and monarchial lion.

Here we can enjoy the best of three worlds. From the awesome splendour and thrilling adventures of the Victoria Falls, an easy 50 minute journey will return us to the quiet bliss of "Livingstone's Africa" and the magical luxury of the lodges, far from the madding crowd.

WATER LODGE:
Fronting the mighty Zambezi shoreline lies Water Lodge - a tribute to the legendry Nyaminyami, guardian of the river, who dwells beneath the thundering mists of the Falls. This synthesis of stone, teak and thatch languishes under Mangosteen and Waterberry trees and comprises three small, exclusive camps of six suites each.

Overlooking the tranquil Zambezi, each is air-conditioned with its own private plunge pool. The design and decor are uniquely African, whilst reflecting the textures and moods of the Zambezi River with the use of natural slate, teak wood and soft denim furnishings.

LOCATION:
The Lodges lie in the 50 000-hectare Matetsi Reserve in north-western Zimbabwe - 40 km west of Victoria Falls and close to Botswana border at Kasane. Transfers from Victoria Falls Airport (VFA).
